Our Leaders

Pastor Kurt Johnson was in medical school in his native state of Oklahoma when he experienced a radical encounter with God and a call to ministry.  After completing his MD, he and his wife Marla (also an MD) began traveling to the nations to share the Gospel and build up local churches.  They also served in leadership positions in their local churches.

After 10 years of serving in ministry, Kurt and Marla moved to Charlotte in 2008, and at God's direction, began preparations for Renaissance Church in 2009.

Kurt graduated Magna Cum Laude from Duke University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering, and from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine with a 4.0 grade point average.  He also completed his medical internship at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Kurt is a graduate of Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry in Redding, CA (Pastor Bill Johnson).

Kurt and Marla live in Charlotte with their two precious sons.

Pastor Marla Johnson was trained in classical piano from the age of six and converted to Christ at age seven.  She began writing worship music at the age of 8. At age 17, Marla had a powerful experience with God and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. From that time until now, she has led thousands in worship – bringing many to Christ, and sharing her music and her faith with people around the world.  Marla now leads worship on guitar, piano, and also plays french horn.  She has led worship in 12 languages and writtens songs in three.

Marla is a graduate of Oral Roberts Universtity and the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine.
